The following will be largely familiar to you from the initial steps described in section Creating a Cube via OLAP Exchange, that concern configuring a (DSN) Data Source Name that serves as your connection to an underlying relational system. For convenience's sake, these steps are quickly repeated in the following discussions, so when you are reading this current section in order to configure an MDB Server for OLAP Exchange® you can visually follow the steps without having to refer back to the first part of this manual. Do consult Section on Creating a Cube via OLAP Exchange, however, if you want to read a more extensive description of the steps involved.
Notes
In fact, the following steps detail the configuration of the ODBC DSN via
the Control Panel—which
is an alternate method from beginning the procedure through the PowerOLAP®
user interface (i.e., the Create Cube from Relational Data Source
dialog box). As you will see, using either method you will quickly arrive
at the familiar Create a New Data Source to SQL Server dialog box.
You may use either method, whether working locally or, the subject of
this section, Working with OLAP Exchange® on the MDB Server.
In order to follow the steps, we recommend that user have access to the
Northwind database running on SQL Server 2008 R2.
To configure ODBC Data Source:
1. From the Start menu, select Settings, Control Pane, and Administrative Tools.
2. Double-click on the Data Sources
