Working with OLAP Exchange® as Client in a Server Scenario

We will now consider how to proceed with OLAP Exchange® features discussed previously (Modify Relational Dimension; Process Cube) and whether these may be performed from a Client in a Client/Server scenario. The following is a useful table indicating what can be done from the Client in a Server scenario, provided you have appropriate database privileges (i.e., Design privileges on Metadata for the Cube—see PowerOLAP® User Manual):

Tip

The above image is true for a restricted user, but all the options would be available if privileges are granted or if it is an administrator. Also indicated above, when working with a Server-based database, you cannot create a Cube from a Client using OLAP Exchange®.

You can, however, create a Cube using OLAP Exchange® on a local machine, then place it on the Server—see Section on Administrator Topics.
