Re-defining a Dimension

To modify a relational-based Dimension:

1.   From the PowerOLAP ribbon, go to Data tab then in the OLAP Exchange control group select Modify Relational Dimension command.
The Modify Dimension From Relational Source dialog box appears.

If you are using the example database, Northwind, the following dialog box will appear, with Cubes listed in the left-hand pane and constituent Dimensions in the right-hand pane.

2.   From the Dimensions list box, select the Dimension to be modified (E.g., Measures) and then click OK.

A Message box that appears asking if you want to proceed:

Important

This message box is a reminder that there are ramifications for Modifying a Relational Dimension because it involves a complete rebuild of the Cube. (Refer to discussion on Ramifications of Modify Relational Dimension topic)

Note that at any point you can opt out of the process by clicking Cancel, in which case you will receive the following message:

Message box 2

3.   To proceed with modifying the relational dimension Click OK in the initial message box.
(Refer to image: Message box 1)

This will once again bring up the Define Members dialog box.

Now you can proceed to the steps for re-defining the dimension.
