The Users & Groups dialog box is where one can specify the particular users and groups that will be granted access to the secured database.
After expanding Groups tree in the right-hand box, you'll see this is where to Add/Modify/Delete users and groups. The full roster of both appears on the left; on the right shows the Groups and their constituent users.
The following exercise will demonstrate the steps involved for adding a user (u1) and a user group (Write Group).
Adding a User
To add a User/s (E.g., u1:)
1. From the PowerOLAP ribbon, go to
Model tab and in the Security control group select the Users
and Groups icon or Maintain
Users Groups command.
The Users & Groups dialog box appears.
2. In Users window located in the left
hand pane of the Users & Groups dialog box, click on the Add
button.
The Define User dialog box appears.
3. Specify the User Name (E.g., u1),
Description (optional) and you will have to provide and verify your password
(E.g., 12345678).
Click OK.
Note that you will be required to provide at least an 8 character password.
You will be directed back to the User & Groups dialog box. Notice that u1 is now added as a user.
Notes
In order to proceed with the next exercise for adding a user group, create
additional users u2 and u3.
Follow the same procedures to add u2 and u3 as users (use
12345678 as their passwords).
Adding a User Group
To create a User Group (e.g. Write Group):
1. In Groups window located in the right hand pane of the User & Groups dialog box, click on the Add button. The Define Group dialog box will be displayed.
2. Type in the <Group Name> (i.e., Write Group) and <Description> (optional) and click OK.
Back in the Users & Groups dialog box, note that 'Write Group' now appears in the Groups window.
3. Now to add 'u2' and 'u3' as part of the Write Group, select the Write Group in the Groups window of the Users & Groups dialog then select u2 and press Ctrl then select u3.
4. Click the arrow button (boxed in the image above).
When you expand the Write Group, you will see that the selected users are now added to the group.
5. Click OK to close the dialog.
Notes
Adding a user to a user group will grant the user the same security privileges
assigned to the group. Hence, including any user to the Administrator
Group, will give that user full administrator rights over a particular
database where the user and user groups have been specified.
