The Select Members Dialog

This section concerns the Select Members [for Dimension] dialog and the different options that can be found therein.

The Select Members Dialog

The Select Members dialog is divided into two panes. The left-hand pane consists of three tabs: Members, Hierarchy and Subsets. You can toggle between these tabs and use the Members, Hierarchies, and pre-created Subsets shown to define what Members to include to your target VIP sheets Slice by moving those Members into the display pane on the right.

a. Members tab – this tab displays the full Member list for a given Dimension.

b. Hierarchy tab – this tab will show all the hierarchies in the Dimension.

c. Subsets tab- this tab will show a list of pre-created smaller sets of logically grouped Members (e.g., Jan, Feb and Mar hierarchized in Qtr 1), which are called ‘Subsets’.

The Members tab
Icon Name	Icon	Description
Sort		Allows you to arrange the Members list in natural order, Ascending Alphabetical and Descending Alphabetical.
Filter textbox		This will allow you to filter through the Member list and return only those Members that satisfy the filter criteria. Type in the Member name or text/character in this textbox.
Apply Filter		Executes the filter criteria.
Cancel Filter		Clears the filter applied and returns the full Member list.
Search textbox and Find Member		Runs through the Member list to locate a specified Member. Type in the Member name in the Search textbox and click the Find Member icon to trigger the search to execute.

The Hierarchy tab

Navigate to Parent		Allows you to arrange the Members list in natural order, Ascending Alphabetical and Descending Alphabetical.
Search textbox and Find Member		Runs through the hierarchy structure to locate a specified Member. Type in the Member name in the Search textbox and click the Find Member icon to trigger the search to execute.
Expand entire hierarchy		Expands the entire Dimension hierarchy
Collapse entire hierarchy		Collapses the Dimension hierarchy to show only the root parent Member.

The Subsets tab

Search textbox and
Find Subset

Runs through the Subset list to locate a specified Subset name. Type in the Subset name in the Search textbox and click the Find Subset icon to trigger the search to execute.

The second, right-hand pane of the Select Member [for Dimension] dictates the Members that will be displayed when the VIP sheets Slice gets created.

Below provides a description of the command icons that can be found along the top of the Display pane section.

The Display pane commands
Icon Name	Icon	Description
Copy Selected Members		Copies the currently selected Member from the Member list pane and places it into the Display pane.
Clear		Deletes the Member/s listed in the Display pane.
Clear and Copy Selected Members		Deletes the Member/s listed in the Display pane and replaces it/them with the currently selected Members from the Member list pane.
Insert empty row/column after selected member		Inserts an empty row after the currently selected Member from the display pane. When the Slice is generated, this will show empty rows in the areas where they are inserted. [Note, this can be seen only in Select Member dialog for Columns and Rows.]
Invert Selection		Inverts the selection in the Display pane.
Search textbox and search button		Searches through the Members in the Display pane to locate a specified Member name. Type in the Member name in the Search textbox and click the Search icon (magnifying glass).
Cancel Member Changes		Cancels or reverts the changes made to current display Member/s.
Use Selected Members		Commits or saves the modifications made to the display Member/s.
